WHEN        Tuesday October 28, 2025, 600 PM
WHERE      Cahill Auditorium, Braintree Town Hall
SPONSOR Braintree Historical Society
SPEAKER John F Donovan, Braintree Historical Society

After World War II there was a severe shortage of housing for veterans. The Town of Braintree responded by building 96 temporary apartments for veterans. Operating between 1946 and 1954, the project became known as “Union Village”.
Between 1951 and 1961, the Town also built ninety single-family homes for veterans located throughout the town. They were on Common, Drake, Erickson, Mann, Olofsson, Pantano and Pearl Streets, Hillside and Wildwood Avenues, and King Hill Road. When the housing crisis was over, these homes were sold to veterans.

Good evening all,
I’ve been asked by the Braintree Historical Society to help put together a map of neighborhood names and locations in Braintree, the neighborhood I grew up in was called the highlands, reason being it was the highest point between Boston and Plymouth. I’m asking you all, if you have a neighborhood name and street(s) that was specific to where you grew up Braintree Historical Society would appreciate knowing.
Sincerely,
Kevin Foley
PS Had a great time at the 75th birthday party, great website.
